Frequently Asked Questions

How many hours will I spend on the project per week?

It depends. The overall commitment across 6 weeks is roughly 50 hours, but how you allocate the time each week is completely up to you and your schedule.

Will the project have face-to-face components?

Often the company will invite students to come into their offices and present their final recommendation to senior executives, which also provides an opportunity to meet the team in person. However, this is dependent on COVID-19 restrictions, and will also vary by project because some teams will have students from different states.

What will be the main form of communication with my team members and mentor?

Communication will primarily take place via F3’s dedicated online platform, Practera, which also provides many resources to support you throughout the project.

What are my employment prospects following completion of the F3 project?

We’ve had many cases of F3 alumni being hired directly by their matched company after completion of their work experience. For many other companies, F3 alumni are often notified of openings first before roles are advertised to the public. F3 will also keep in contact with students if they wish, and notify them of roles that have opened up in our partner firms.

Can I add my F3 experience to my LinkedIn profile?

Of course! There is also a Practera badge which you can download after completion of the project. You might even ask your mentor if they would be willing to write a reference for your profile.

How much finance knowledge is required to complete the F3 project?

It depends on the project brief provided by your matched company. While students are assumed to have basic business knowledge, the mentor will definitely provide learning opportunities for students who might not have taken many Finance courses yet.

I’m not doing a Finance major. Can I still apply?

Definitely! We welcome applications from students in any finance-related field, and many of our alumni have backgrounds such as accounting, actuarial studies, economics, and business information systems.

What type of projects will I be working on?

Project details vary across firms. Previously we’ve had teams work on a whole range of topics such as sustainable investing, ETFs, fixed income strategies, stockpicking, and go-to-market product ideas.

I’m currently working part-time/have an upcoming internship. Can I still participate in the F3 project alongside these commitments?

Absolutely! Aside from the set dates of your orientation session and final presentation, the rest of your F3 schedule is very flexible, and you can definitely choose to work on it entirely at night or on weekends. Your meeting times with your team and mentor will also be decided collectively depending on when everyone is free.
