Undertaking a F3 placement enables you to work on a business project with a financial services company before you graduate. This provides immense benefits in terms of allowing you to experience what the workplace is like and getting your foot in the door. By experiencing the day-to-day of a finance professional, it helps you gauge whether the finance industry is right for you.
Improve key employability skills
Over 6 weeks, you will significantly improve key skills which are highly valued in the workplace. By collaborating within a team and participating in weekly meetings, you will develop communication skills and learn how to listen actively. Working on 3 deliverables together will also hone your teamwork and project management skills, where you learn to rely on each other and become more flexible by accommodating everyone’s schedules. If you complete a placement during term or semester, you will also learn to balance this work placement with other commitments and manage your time more effectively.
Practice your effectiveness to reflect and receive feedback
F3 provides opportunities for team members to reflect on their own performance as well as give feedback on each other’s strengths. This is an excellent chance for you to identify your professional personality and blind spots, and to work on these in order to enhance your performance before your step into the industry. In the workplace, there will also be numerous times where you receive feedback from colleagues or your manager and be asked to provide feedback to others, so this is a great place for you to practise these skills in a supportive environment.
Gain access to employers, mentors, industry contacts, and peers
During the F3 work experience, you will work together with a team of 4 other students and have access to a mentor from your matched company. This process allows you to share your perspectives with one other and learn from each other’s ideas. During weekly meetings, your mentor might also invite other senior executives within the company to speak with the team and share their career stories, and during your final presentation, other staff within the firm will also be in attendance. Networking with these professionals helps to broaden your industry network, which can provide you with important information and resources to help you land your dream job.
