We know that your first finance internship might prompt a fashion refresh. Your weekend looks may not translate to the office. That said, as Investor Relations at eInvest, I have learned a few things along the way and pulled together some guiding tips below.
Hopefully, you have some of these in your wardrobe already! If not I have selected some budget-friendly options below.
Blazers
Pro tip: If you have to attend an interview, always wear a jacket or blazer.
The super oversized blazer trend that is popular on TikTok right now is not appropriate for the office, sadly. The boomers just don’t get it, it could be interpreted as being sloppy. Opt for something tailored instead.
Zara has some well-priced options. The Tokito brand from Myer is a good place to start if you are budget conscious, they also have decent plus-sized options.

Cardigans
If you’re trying to pull together an internship wardrobe on a budget, it is a good idea to try and use things that might be in your wardrobe already.
A simple cardigan can work well with dresses, pants and skirts, like Rachel Zane from Suits. Just make sure the cardigan isn’t too oversized, pilled or textured.

Heels
The 90s-style open-toe heels are popular right now. They’re cute. That said, an open toe is hard to get away with in the office.
Remember, heels don’t have to be high. In fact, in a post-lockdown world I have definitely noticed that heels are lower in the office these days.

Trousers
Tailored trousers might already be in your wardrobe, or if not, they are a good staple to have.
Opt for a neutral colour like black, navy or tan with a flat front (no pleats). Both full length and ankle length work well. Something with stretch is probably more comfortable when sitting at a desk.
